An environmental clothing line.
As a designer, I am given the opportunity to communicate art and subjects that are important in today’s society. Through the power of design, I can sway a viewer to think differently, gain insight into a new world, and hopefully inspire change and creativity. For me, I always like to begin a design with research, knowledge is key to creating any effective and intriguing design. When I know my audience; I can better select imagery, color, and fonts, while applying my own artistic style. For me, environmental impacts to the planet are an important and necessary issue that needs to be focused on. Specifically, fast fashion and how detrimental it is to the earth. I wanted to explore the effects of such a powerful industry in today’s society, showing something that is ethically created, can be just as stylistic, artful, and wearable. Using the power of shape, line, and color I developed my fabric patterns taking nuances of art deco and 70’s retro with a modern twist. From there, I designed my environmentally conscience clothing line with sustainable fabric and printing methods, then handmade each individual piece. I carried those same design styles throughout my project when developing the packaging, editorial displays, and look book. I mixed structural elements with color and illustrative motifs, constructing a cohesive and stylistic brand. I love fashion, I feel it is an extension of self-expression and artistry. I wanted to morph those two ideas of beautiful fashion and something with a purpose. To show that it is possible to make artful clothing that matters while having a positive effect on the environment.
